Adopting Your Spinone Italiano Puppy: What to Expect

Our puppies are born and live in our house. So they are familiar with the sounds and smells of a human household. From when they are born until they go to their homes, I am with them always. I get to know each one and they will all have different personalities. Knowing each puppy allows me to make the best match with each family. I establish a bond with each one so that they learn to love and trust humans. One result of this bond is that our puppies know the concept of recall when they go to their homes at eight weeks. This careful handling combined with the Spinone's gentle nature results in loving and empathetic personalities.


 From about five weeks, our puppies are exposed almost daily to either frozen birds or a live pigeon. This helps to stroke their genetic hunting instinct.

A clear overview of the application, selection, and preparation steps at Maple Hollow Spinone

 Healthy puppies start with healthy parents. All our breeders have had and passed the following health tests: hips, elbows, thyroid, eyes and cardiac. They have also had a DNA panel done through Embark. This assists us in making match up decisions. Especially in regards to COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding) percentages. Our goal is to keep those numbers as low as possible. Our puppies are dewormed at two weeks and every two weeks. At 5-6 weeks we send a community fecal sample out for complete parasite analysis. They will have their first shots and a complete wellness exam, with certificate, by my vet at seven weeks. They will have a microchip preregistered with AKC Reunite. Included are registration with AKC and NAVHDA and we will do the registering for you. 



   After your puppy goes home, we are always here for you to answer any questions and help with any problems which may arise. We like to stay in contact with our puppy families and especially enjoy seeing pictures of them as they grow.

How to Adopt Your Spinone Italiano Puppy

 It starts by us getting to know you and your expectations as it relates to a puppy. Things like have you had a Spinone before?, what is your history with dogs?, do you have other dogs or pets and if so what is their personality like?, will you hunt?, will you show?, do you have an active lifestyle?, do you live in a rural or urban setting?. All these things help me to find the right puppy for you.

When we start the breeding process I will contact you and keep you up to date with deveopments. After the puppies are born and we know we will have a puppy for you we ask for a $500 deposit. We are asking a total of $3500 and the balance is due on puppy pickup day after they are 8 weeks old.
